Since its launch, the Program has continued to deliver on this mission. In 2026, two major initiatives reflect this commitment:

Support for Mothers of the Amazon through an exceptional €500,000 donation from one of AFAP's benefactors. This contribution enabled the acquisition and preservation of 20,501 hectares of forest and biodiversity in the Acre region, returning the land to the Huni Kui People.Amazônia Fund Alliance also supported the movie Raoni, a film dedicated to Chief Raoni, directed by Alexandre Bouchet, by mobilising funding to help bring this important project to lite.

In Venice, the Better World Award recognises the Amazônia Fund Alliance Program’s continued commitment to protecting the Amazon, empowering Indigenous communities and turning global support into meaningful action.

‍It is a great joy and privilege to be here today, surrounded by people who share my belief that meaningful change is possible when compassion is transformed into action.

In 2008, I founded the Akbaraly Foundation with a simple belief: access to healthcare and education should never depend on where you are born, how much you earn, or whether you are a woman.

For almost two decades, we have worked to turn that belief into something real. In Madagascar, where I have lived for the past 30 years, more than 80% of the population survives on less than two dollars a day, and access to essential healthcare remains out of reach for far too many people.

Every day, our teams work to change this reality, bringing health, wellbeing and safety to communities that too often have nowhere else to turn. Through our medical centers, laboratories, Mobile Unit and community programs, we focus particularly on women and children’s health, cancer prevention and early detection, maternal health, and support for the most vulnerable.

Today, the Akbaraly Foundation has delivered more than 300,000 healthcare services, including over 80,000 breast cancer screenings, 75,000 cervical cancer screenings and 22,000 pediatric consultations, while reaching more than one million people through awareness and screening campaigns.

But behind every number is a person. A woman who received a diagnosis in time and can return home to her family. A child once weakened by malnutrition, who can now grow, learn, play and imagine a future. A community given the resources to protect its own health, and the health of the generations to follow.

And yet, for every person we reach, many more are still waiting — for a screening, a diagnosis, treatment, essential medicines or proper nutrition. Or simply for someone to tell them that they have not been forgotten.

Every donation allows us to reach more patients, provide more treatments, strengthen our medical facilities and bring essential care where it is needed most. Your support does not simply fund a program.
